Nidderdale and the Harrogate District
The area directly surrounding Dinmore self-catering cottages is
called Nidderdale, which is designated an 'Area of Outstanding
natural Beauty'.
Nidderdale is a place of great contrasts, from the grand, sweeping
landscapes of Upper Nidderdale with its high fells, upland reservoirs
and heather moorland and limestone caves and gorges to the gentler
farmed landscapes of the south and east surrounding Dinmore.
There
are many opportunities to enjoy the beautiful countryside of
Nidderdale. For the more energetic, cycling and riding, and
for the more sedate walking, bird watching and fishing. The
grounds of Dinmore self-catering cottages provide direct access
to the Nidderdale Way and an extensive network of paths and
bridleways.
However
you decide to enjoy the countryside, Nidderdale provides
you with lots of choice and you are sure to receive a warm
Yorkshire welcome in the towns and villages of Nidderdale
and their many good pubs serving meals and bar snacks. Six
miles away is the attractive market town of Pateley Bridge,
the capital of Nidderdale, and just beyond you can explore
the caves of How Stean Gorge also known as "Little
Switzerland".
Dinmore self-catering cottages are also only 7 miles from Harrogate.
Harrogate is 'England's Floral Town' with a fascinating spa heritage
and is renowned for its floral beauty and elegant spa buildings,
including the Royal Pump Room Museum and Turkish Baths.
It was the winner of 'Britain in Bloom 2003' and as a result was
selected as Britain's entry for the 2004 Europe in bloom 'Etate
Florale' where it was awarded the golf medal. Harrogate has acres
of immaculate gardens with an array of colour throughout the year,
open spaces, elegant architecture and broad tree-lined boulevards.
For garden lovers the RHS Harlow Carr garden is a must.
The
present town of Harrogate has evolved from one of the most fashionable
spas in Europe with dignified Victorian buildings with cast-iron
canopies and cascading floral baskets. It is now an important conference
and exhibition centre and full of good shops - particularly fashion
and antiques - restaurants, wine bars and cafes including its famous
Betty's Cafe.
